"Monk was that guy in HS": Hoops fans react to high school clip of Lonzo Ball going against Malik Monk

Fans have reacted to the high school basketball showdown between Sacramento Kings shooting guard Malik Monk and Chicago Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball 10 years ago.

Both Monk and Ball were five-star consensus recruits in their high school basketball class, and they did show out when they faced each other as juniors in January 2015.

The performance of the two players in that game has now got fans talking, with many praising Monk after watching the highlight reel posted by courtsidefilms on Instagram.

“Man no way Monk was on this I gotta watch full game na😂,” a fan said.
“Monk was really that guy in HS," another fan said.
“He laid down ucla vs Kentucky too. Fox killed em 💯💯💯, “ another fan said.

The comments kept coming, with a fan saying Monk’s performance meant nothing because his team lost.

“Chino n Lonzo won. The end,” a fan said.
“Where are the gelo highlights," another fan said.
“Skill vs talent😂 lonzo has a developed game and iq I think he had to work for that, not that monk didn’t work for it but you can tell he’s more naturally athletic and just has basketball rhythm,” another fan said.

Despite ending up on the losing side, Monk dropped 50 points for Bentonville in the loss while Ball recorded 19 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds for Chino Hills.

Malik Monk and Lonzo Ball in High School

Both Malik Monk and Lonzo Ball were among the top 10 recruits in their class (2016). Monk was ranked ninth overall and the No. 1 shooting guard. Meanwhile, Ball was ranked the No. 4 overall prospect behind Harry Giles, Josh Jackson and Jayson Tatum, as per ESPN.

Monk attended two high schools, East Poinsett County High School and Bentonville. In his freshman year, he averaged 22.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game at East Poinsett before moving to Bentonville where he averaged 26.9 points per game as a junior in 2015 and 28.6 points per game as a senior a year later.

Meanwhile, Ball attended Chino High School, averaging 25.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 9.1 assists and 5.0 blocks as a junior in the 2014-15 season. As a senior, the Anaheim (CA) native averaged 23.9 points, 11.3 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game.
