The Ohio State Buckeyes' coaching staff has been actively recruiting top quarterback prospects, and this month was no exception. Among the elite talents visiting Columbus was 2027 Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson quarterback Trent Seaborn, who left Ohio State with a glowing review of the program and its coaches.

Ohio State has consistently excelled in recruiting quarterbacks since Ryan Day joined the staff in 2017. The Buckeyes' coaching staff went above and beyond to make Seaborn and his family feel welcome during their visit.

“My entire family got to meet Coach [Chip] Kelly and Coach [Ryan] Day and they were both great to us," Seaborn told On3. "Coach Day took time out of his day to talk to us and was super down to Earth. We also learned that he played for Coach Kelly back in the day too which shows the great chemistry that they will have."

Kelly also took time out of an official visit to engage with them further. Coach Riley Larkin, an offensive analyst, also spent considerable time with the prospect's family over the two days, which left a lasting impression.

"He was a great person. My whole family loved him and really enjoyed being around him, and I think very highly of him,” Seaborn said.

Seaborn had hoped to participate in a camp at Ohio State this summer, but his schedule was packed with team activities at Thompson. Despite this, the visit to Ohio State still stood out to him and his family.

Seaborn became Thompson’s quarterback as an eighth-grader during the 2022 playoffs, leading the team to its fourth consecutive state title. His performance earned him the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year award last season.

Seaborn's breakout moment came earlier, starting in 10 games as an eighth-grader, where he threw for 1,177 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a freshman, he threw for 2,601 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Alabama and Auburn are currently leading the race for Trent Seaborn's pledge

Trent Seaborn received offers from several big programs, including Nebraska, Alabama, Arkansas, Oregon, Auburn and Ole Miss. However, Alabama and Auburn currently lead the race for his commitment.

Seaborn's performance at Thompson High School has naturally drawn significant attention within Alabama, and it's no surprise that the state's top football programs are intensely competing for his pledge. According to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, Alabama is the front-runner to secure his commitment, boasting a 48.2% chance.

But Auburn is not far behind in this recruiting battle, and Seaborn has also expressed a great deal of admiration for Auburn's head coach, Hugh Freeze, and offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.

“I think he’s a great coach that can turn that program around,” Seaborn told On3. “With him and Coach Montgomery, I love their philosophy on offense. The offense they run is fast-paced, and I’m really excited to see where they go with that.”

Seaborn's enthusiasm for the Tigers' coaching style and offensive philosophy could give Auburn an edge. Auburn holds a 17.4% chance of landing him, according to On3's prediction model.
