Four-star defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui received 25 offers, beginning with USC two years ago. However, the standout from Mater Dei High School (California) committed to Oregon in October and has remained true to his pledge.
Mater Dei capped off an extraordinary season by winning the CIF Open Division state championship bowl game, defeating De La Salle 37-15. The win secured the Trinity League championship and a perfect 13-0 record. Topui's instrumental performance throughout the season earned him the Trinity League MVP honor.
Topui celebrated the achievement on X, writing:
"Beyond blessed and thankful to have been named MVP of the Trinity League 🙏🏽🇹🇴."
Mater Dei’s victory marked their fifth CIF Open Division state championship and Topui’s second consecutive title. Two months ago, he was voted the top defensive lineman in the CIF-Southern Section after recording 11 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in Mater Dei’s first two games.
Besides Tomuhini Topui, Oregon has nine other committed players in the 2026 class and ranks No. 1 nationally. His Mater Dei teammate and offensive tackle, Kodi Greene, committed to the Ducks this cycle in August.
Tomuhini Topui raves about his bond with Oregon's coaching staff
Tomuhini Topui was pursued heavily by multiple programs, including Auburn, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas and USC, among others. However, Oregon's coaching staff's push weighed heavily on him.
"What stand out to me the most is the overall relationships I have with the coaches over there," Topui told SI. "They are very high on my list."
Topui's commitment to Oregon came following a visit to Eugene to see the then-no. 3 Oregon’s 32-31 win over the then-no. 2 Ohio State on Oct. 12.
“Every time I go up there they’re always telling me I’m their number one priority and every time I go up there I feel it,” Topui told On3. “It’s not just them showing love ’cause I’m at their school, it’s genuine love."
Tomuhini Topui is the No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2026 class, the No. 10 recruit in California and the No. 60 prospect in the nation, according to ESPN.
