The New Jersey high school football circuit is grieving after Hudson Catholic lost coach Lamar McKnight and his assistant coach Brad Cunningham in a car accident on Friday evening in Newark. The crash, which also claimed the lives of four others, including McKnight's brother Darryl McKnight, was reported by NJ.com.
McKnight, 32, had just completed his first season coaching the Hudson Catholic Hawks, leading the team to a 5-4 record. Cunningham, 41, was widely respected as his assistant coach.
The incident also claimed the life of McKnight's brother, Darryl, who was traveling with them. On Saturday, their mother, Natasha McKnight, spoke to the people gathered in front of their residence to show their support.
"This our place and it will always be," Natasha said, as per NJ.com. "Them throwing the football on that street all day every from that end to that end. One was a receiver, and one was a quarterback. They were loved, loveable kids. Young men."
