Colorado scored a big recruitment win this month by securing the commitment of five-star quarterback Julian Lewis from Carrollton High School (Texas) to its 2025 class. Lewis remains the prized recruit in the Buffaloes cycle, alongside 10 other committed players. The Deion Sanders-coached school is also pursuing his Carrollton teammate Zelus Hicks and sent him a scholarship offer this week.
Hicks is a four-star safety and committed to Texas. He could give a big boost to Colorado’s No. 48-ranked class if he were to flip his commitment.
The buzz around Colorado's pursuit of Hicks quickly gained buzz on social media, as fans started comparing the potential duo of Lewis and Hicks to the Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter pairing.
"New Shedeur Travis duo for next year," a fan wrote.
"'We got Shedeur and Travis at home,'" one wrote.
However, Hicks is committed to the Texas program, which is 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the Southeastern Conference. Colorado improved this season at 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the Big 12, but the Longhorns are definitely a better option for Hicks.
"He's not leaving Texas," one wrote.
"He staying in Texas," one wrote.
"He not leaving Texas, Texas 10x better than Colorado," one wrote.
Besides that, the Texas 2025 class is also No. 4 in the nation with 24 committed players. Along with Hicks, the cycle has five-star safety Jonah Williams locked in along with multiple five-star prospects.
Zelus Hicks is set to visit Texas this week
The No. 3 Texas is set to face the No. 20 Texas A&M on Saturday, and Zelus Hicks will be in attendance in the high-voltage game. He confirmed the news on X, tagging Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and safeties coach Blake Gideon.
"Horns Up 🤘🏾 Back in Austin!! @TexasFootball @TexasRecruiting @InsideTexas @CoachSark @Coach_Gideon."
Texas offered Hicks back in May, and he gave his commitment in September. There was a rumor about his possibility of reclassifying from the 2026 to 2025 class to join Texas early, and he made the decision on Nov. 4.
Zelus Hicks is the No. 234 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 20 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 34 recruit in Georgia, according to Rivals.
