AJ Dybantsa and the rest of Utah Prep are in Canada for Grind Session Toronto, taking on several Canadian teams at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough, Ontario. There, the No. 1-ranked recruit from the Class of 2025 showed why he is considered the best in his class, with many fans clamoring that he should go to the NBA directly and skip college after his performance on Sunday.
Overtime on Instagram posted a highlight reel of Dybantsa's gameplay, garnering a multitude of fan reactions.
Many felt he was ready for the big leagues now.
"He don’t need college. He need to go straight to the league," said one fan.
"Not gone lie that side step 3 was deadly," wrote another.
"he’s nba ready," another commented.
However, some Instagram users poked fun at his teammate, whom he dunked on, while others pointed out that Utah Prep lost that game against Canadian school Fort Erie.
"This man dunked on his teammate 💀💀😂," one fan noted.
"Dunking on ya own teammate is wild😭😭😭," said another.
"They lost the game💀," one fan pointed out.
It was a losing effort for Dybantsa's squad in Canada, as Fort Erie stood tall in a close game, 72-70. Utah Prep opened Grind Session Toronto with a victory, though, beating Royal Crown 88-61, with AJ Dybantsa recording a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds.
As for what Dybantsa is planning, he will possibly be one-and-done for whatever school he chooses to go to, spending only his freshman year there before joining the 2026 NBA draft as possibly the No. 1 recruit.
The school with the highest chance to get his commitment for at least a year is BYU, as the Cougars have been aggressive in recruiting him, with coach Kevin Young starting to recruit Dybantsa before he even started the coaching job there.
Fort Erie shocked AJ Dybantsa and Utah Prep in an upset despite No. 1 recruit's solid performance
While AJ Dybantsa put up a monster game for Utah Prep, it was still local team Fort Erie that brought home the victory in Toronto. Tristan Beckford led the team with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists. He was declared the player of the game.
Meanwhile, Dybantsa had 23 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal to lead his squad. He was backed up by teammate Anthony Felesi, who had 17 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one block, though their combined efforts were not enough.
