Aaliyah Chavez, the top player in the Class of 2025, shared a post on Tuesday of NBA player Jalen Brunson wearing the newest Kobe 5’s through her Instagram story.

The Nice Kicks post showed Brunson debuting the upcoming “Year of the Mamba” Nike Kobe 5, which will be released on Saturday. The post also gives a glimpse of the shoe's vibrant design, which features a golden mamba wrapped strikingly over its expanse of red.

Chavez brought attention to the brand-new shoes in her story with moving arrows and a glancing eyes animation.

“YUP,” she wrote in the story.

Chavez previously showed off her rare Nike Kobe 5 Protro "Year of the Mamba Eggplant" sneakers on Instagram. She received them ahead of their scheduled publication on January 9. The 5-foot-9 player's infatuation for Kobe Bryant is well documented.

The sneakers she received were themed for the Lunar New Year and came in a striking red box with gold accents. The shoes have a glossy purple finish with a gold snake-like design. They honor Kobe’s Black Mamba legacy. Chavez captioned her story with “got em” as she showed her followers the gift from Nike.

How long before Aaliyah Chavez reaches 5,000 career points?

Monterey High School’s Aaliyah Chavez currently has 4,431 career points. She is 569 away from joining the elite players club of 5,000 high school points.

Only two NFHS-recognized athletes, Adrien McGowen (Texas, 5,424 points from 2003-2006 for Goodrich High School) and No. 2 Victoria Vivians (Miss., 5,172 from 2011-2014 for Forest Scott Central), have achieved this in their careers.

The Texas native has performed phenomenally throughout her high school career. She has averaged over 1,000 points each season, with eight career 50-point games and a career-high of 57.

To reach 5,000 points, she must average 52 points across a maximum of 11 games, including playoffs. This is quite a difficult feat to attain. She is averaging 36.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season.

Aaliyah Chavez has received offers from top programs like UCLA, LSU and Texas, thanks to her splendid high school basketball resume.
