The North Carolina Tar Heels have landed a big new commitment, this time for their women's basketball team as Brazilian four-star small forward Taissa Queiroz has revealed that she is going to Chapel Hill. She currently plays for Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, California.

Queiroz is ranked No. 76 in the ESPNW 100. Before committing to Tar Heels head coach Courtney Banghart's program, she also received offers from Washington, Gonzaga, Colorado, Kansas State, and Utah.

The 6-1 Brazilian recruit spoke with 247Sports regarding her choice of school.

“I committed to North Carolina because I really liked my official visit and how truthful they were with me,” she said. “I really appreciate that. I saw a lot of things that I really liked. And, head coach Courtney Banghart is a really nice person."

She added:

"I think that she’s going to help me a lot — not just as a basketball player, but also as a woman. From now until when I get there, there will be a lot of differences and I think she’ll help a lot with that. I really trust her and her staff.”

Queiroz then talked about her future with the North Carolina Tar Heels.

"I really like how Coach Baghart sees me fitting in," she said. "She sees me as a 2 or 3. And with the way they play, she really sees me fitting in well with their other commits. Choosing UNC was a great choice for me. And, outside of basketball, I'll have a lot of other opportunities."

Meanwhile, Coach Banghart noted that Queiroz will have a seamless transition with her system and will fit in with the rest of her team well.

Taissa Queiroz to graduate early to get used to North Carolina Tar Heels system

With her commitment to go to Chapel Hill, Queiroz revealed that she would be graduating high school early and joining the North Carolina Tar Heels as early as January.

Because of this, she is planning to use this early start to get used to coach Banghart's system and also meet her new teammates.

“Since I'm graduating early and will be at UNC in January 2025, I'll have an idea of what's happening with the team," she told 247Sports. "My goal is to establish myself with the rest of the girls and my new teammates. After my freshman year, I'm trying to win Conference Tournaments and make NCAA Tournament appearances."

The small forward is now the third player from the class of 2025 to commit to the North Carolina Tar Heels, with the first two being Taliyah Henderson and Nyla Brooks, both of whom are five-star recruits.
