Oregon men's basketball coach Dana Altman secured the program's first commitment in the Class of 2025. According to On3's Joe Tipton on Monday, JJ Frakes has committed to the Ducks amid other offers from Michigan, Arizona State, Boise State and others.
Interestingly, the Ducks' offer came later than others, on Friday. However, Frakes wasted no time, committing to Oregon just three days after the offer came in.
Frakes, 6-foot-5, is a three-star Berrien Springs (Michigan) High School shooting guard who is known to be an efficient scorer. As a junior, he averaged 24.4 points per game while shooting 45%, including 35.5% from beyond the arc on 6.5 attempts per game. This performance earned him second-team all-state honors.
However, due to an undisclosed injury, Frakes wasn't able to participate in the summer AAU season, where he would have had the chance to showcase his skills further. However, he still managed to pull in six offers, including one from Altman's Oregon Ducks, where he'll have the opportunity to compete in the Big Ten next season.
Frakes' commitment will help fill a significant roster need as the team will be losing key guards Ra'Heim Moss, Jadrian Tracey and Keeshawn Barthelemy after this season.
Oregon (10-1, 1-1 Big Ten) is ranked 10th this season.
Coach Dana Altman expands Oregon Ducks' recruiting efforts, brings in international talent
Oregon coach Dana Altman has been proactive in his recruiting efforts. In fact, he has been looking beyond the national scope to land international talent.
Junior forward Oleksandr Kobzystyi, a 6-foot-7 wing from Ukraine with professional experience in Serbia, signed in October. He is on Oregon's current roster, joining the school for its late start to the fall quarter.
Senior guard Keeshawn Barthelemy is in his third season at OU after three seasons at Colorado.
