With most of the 2025 recruiting class signed earlier this month, four-star edge rusher Zahir Mathis remains one of the top uncommitted prospects. On Saturday, the Penn State target announced his participation in the Under Armour All-American Game via a post on X, writing:
"Excited to be in Orlando tomorrow for the Under Armour All American game @DemetricDWarren @TheUCReport #UANEXT."
The game is set to take place on Jan. 2 at Spec Martin Stadium in suburban Orlando. It will feature some of the nation’s top talent, including Michigan signee Bryce Underwood and Alabama signee Keelon Russell leading the quarterbacks, while Texas signee K.J. Lacey rounds out the group of highly anticipated signal-callers.
Elite wide receivers like Oregon signee Dakorien Moore will also take the field. On defense, Georgia signee Elijah Griffin leads the defensive line group, while LSU signee DJ Pickett and Oregon signee Na’eem Offord highlight the secondary. Texas signee Lance Jackson will represent the edge rusher group.
The event isn’t limited to 2025 prospects, as several highly regarded 2026 recruits, including Maryland commit Zion Elee and Florida quarterback commit Will Griffin, will also participate. Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell and wide receiver Tristen Keys will also add star power to the lineup.
Zahir Mathis' recruitment update with Penn State
Zahir Mathis decided not to sign during the early signing period on Dec. 4 and would take the decision in February. He initially pledged to Ohio State on Jan. 10 but decommitted on Nov. 18.
Penn State has become a serious contender for the talented edge rusher. Last week, On3’s Steve Wiltfong revealed Mathis’ plans to visit Michigan, Florida State, UCLA and Oregon. Wiltfong also noted that Penn State has been proactive in pursuing the Imhotep Charter standout, as he has already made several trips to Happy Valley.
Penn State defensive line coach Deion Barnes has played a crucial role in building a relationship with Zahir Mathis. The Nittany Lions closed the 2025 class with the No. 14 ranking in the nation. The cycle has 27 committed players, all of whom completed signings with the school earlier this month. It has acquired three transfer players as well.
