Earlier this year, Kiyan Anthony participated in the NBPA Top 100 Camp with other high school basketball stars and trained with NBA players. During the camp, the "Betweenxlines" YouTube channel handed the shooting guard a microphone to interview fellow trainees.
When he was interviewing five-star combo guard Brayden Burries, the tables turned, and it was Burries who ended up asking Kiyan the questions. Burries, the No. 12-ranked player in the Class of 2025, asked Kiyan if he thought he could beat a high-school-aged Anthony Edwards, to which the Long Island Lutheran star said:
"To be honest, I think I will win cuz like I don't know, like people who can't shoot struggle. But he didn't struggle because he was so athletic like, you feel me? And he could knock down a shot so it would definitely be close but I feel like I would win." (15:10)
Kiyan Anthony claims he could beat his dad Carmelo too
Kiyan Anthony also shared the same thoughts about his dad, Carmelo Anthony. Burries asked him if Carmelo was his age and guarding him, would he win. The 17-year-old replied:
"If he was guarding me for the whole game? Everybody say that he don't play no defense, you feel me? It's not get outta the way, but get outta the way for a few possessions, but like pick and roll type I definitely get. I mean by this time he was a number one player you feel me? Anybody that's ranked above me I try to go at so definitely." (14:06)
Later in the interview, he was asked what the result would be if he faced his father at his current age.
"Right now, like 40-year-old Melo, I think I would win," the younger Anthony said. "He too slow, like too slow right now to guard laterally. Nah for sure." (15:32)
Kiyan Anthony is chasing his father's legacy and making his own, choosing the school Carmelo won an NCAA national championship with, in his freshman year. Kiyan announced his pledge to Syracuse in November.
