After a string of high-profile commitments that included the highly touted Boozer twins, Cameron and Cayden Boozer, the Blue Devils registered a stunning victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils. Right now, it seems everything is falling perfectly into place for Jon Scheyer and his basketball team.
Duke hosted Arizona State in an exhibition match on October 27, 2024, as part of the "Brotherhood Run," a charity event benefiting Duke Children's Hospital.
However, the preseason clash turned out to be a big upset for the Sun Devils. Led by Cooper Flagg, Duke’s top-ranked freshman, the Bule Devils trampled the Arizona State basketball team with an imposing 103-47 victory.
Duke's fresh signee, Cayden Boozer, son of the legendary 2x NBA All-Star, Carlos Boozer, took to Instagram to celebrate the convincing victory. In his Instagram story, the 6-foot-4 point guard from Columbus High School posted a picture catching the victory moment with a final score highlighted in bold.
Playing on home turf, Duke ripped through the Sun Devils' defense to put up a massive 59-19 lead at halftime. They continued the momentum in the second half as well, with the 6-7 forward Kon Knueppel leading the charge with 19 points.
Sophomore guard Caleb Foster added 17 points, while junior guard Tyrese Proctor contributed on both ends with a valuable 10 points.
On the other hand, Bobby Hurley’s newly revamped squad seemed completely out of touch. Despite No. 9 recruit from the Class of 2024, Jayden Quaintance, and No. 24 Joson Sanon leading the charge, ASU struggled heavily on the court.
Lack of coordination between the players was apparent. It ultimately culminated in a stinging defeat that will undoubtedly prompt Bobby Hurley to reflect deeply.
Cayden Boozer ready to continue father’s legecy at Duke University
On Thursday, October 10, the Boozer twins announced their commitment to the Duke Blue Devils.
Cayden Boozer had offers from six top colleges in the country, including Florida, Miami and Arkansas; however, he preferred the very college that turned his father into a basketball powerhouse.
Playing under the legendary Mike Krzyzewski from 1999-2002, Carlos Boozer was pivotal in Duke’s national championship victory in 2001.
“I’m proud of them. They’ve worked their butts off for this moment ... Really excited that they took their time. Decided to play together in college, which is amazing,” Carlos Boozer told ESPN.
“They both complement each other so well. They made the best decision for them. Me and mom couldn’t be any prouder. It’s going to be a fun journey,” concluded the veteran player.
Cayden Boozer is currently No. 21 in 247Sports’ 2025 top basketball recruits. Playing for Columbus High School, he averaged an impressive 12.0 points and 7.6 assists while maintaining a 2.49 assist-to-turnover ratio per game.
Cayden certainly has talent and is surely poised to make a name for himself and Duke while continuing his father’s legacy.
