In Texas, where football is king, the historic rivalry between the Duncanville Panthers and the DeSoto Eagles continues with an October 11 clash. In anticipation of the rivalry game, Panthers quarterback Keelon Russell posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that DeSoto will just be the first stop on his "Revenge Tour."
The Duncanville vs. DeSoto rivalry is regarded as the best high school football rivalry in the United States. Russell will seek to improve D'ville's undefeated run to 5-0 against the team's biggest rivals. Both teams are coming off of a bye last week and will enter the rivalry game fresh.
Before the bye week, Duncanville dominated the Skyline Raiders on September 28, winning with a final score of 63-14. Meanwhile, DeSoto had a closer game against the Waxahachie Indians on September 27, winning 39-24.
The Panthers went undefeated for almost two years, which was a 47-game winning streak; however, it was DeSoto that ended that streak.
As for Russell, he is currently regarded as one of the top high school quarterbacks in the country. He has already gotten 1,437 passing yards and 19 games during the season's first four games and he also averages 359.3 passing yards per game.
Russel is currently ranked as the No. 81 recruit by ESPN. Originally, the 4-star quarterback committed to Southern Methodist University, but flipped and committed to Alabama. He is currently the third highest-ranked player from the Class of 2025 to have committed to the Crimson Tide.
DeSoto Eagles also getting ready for rivals Duncanville Panthers
With Keelon Russell and the Panthers visiting DeSoto, the Eagles are already preparing to face the bitter rivals. DeSoto coach Claude Mathis recently talked about the upcoming game.
The Eagles entered the season as the best team in Texas. However, a loss to North Crowley in a stunning upset during Week 2, means the team would have to bounce back and defeat Duncanville to regain the No. 1 spot.
While the team has talent, Mathis noted that it is the "little things" that have led to the team's recent woes, including penalties, miscues and distractions.
"I really do believe the maturity of our football team is getting better, but we’ve got to stop the penalties. The penalties are killing us right now."
The goal is to win the rivalry this year, and DeSoto will have to work out the issues to get there, especially as the game has already generated plenty of hype.
