The Florida Rebels' four-star duo of Jamier Jones and Jalen Reece took AJ Dybantsa and Utah Prep to the limit during last weekend's Las Vegas leg of the Border League. The No. 1 overall recruit from the class of 2025 showed respect for his opponents on his Instagram Stories with a picture of him and Jamier Jones during the tournament.
The Border League is considered the most important preseason tournament for high school basketball and it featured not just school teams like Utah Prep, but also AAU teams like the Florida Rebels. Dybantsa and Utah Prep won that game, which was held on October 19, with the final score of 64-58.
Jones and the Rebels kept it close though, and even managed to expose some holes in Dybantsa's defensive game. Utah Prep, which went 3-0 during the Las Vegas leg, had to dig deep to win.
Meanwhile, Jamier Jones is a No. 55 ranked recruit from the class of 2025. He goes to Oak Ridge High School in Orlando and has already committed to Providence, turning down offers from schools such as LSU, Houston, Cincinnati, and Illinois.
AJ Dybantsa himself had a double-double against the Rebels, ending the game with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. He remains uncommitted but is already down to his Top 7.
The seven schools vying for AJ Dybantsa's commitment
AJ Dybantsa remains the most sought-after recruit from the class of 2025, with the seven schools remaining in contention for his commitment being BYU, Kansas State, Alabama, North Carolina, Auburn, Kansas and USC.
The Utah Prep star has already visited several schools in his top seven, including USC, Auburn, Kansas, Alabama and BYU. However, On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has the BYU Cougars as the likeliest school to receive his commitment.
Birmingham Young University was also the latest school that Dybantsa visited, with the official visit happening last October 11. However, Cougars head coach Kevin Young has been aggressive in trying to recruit Dybantsa. He was already trying to recruit him before he even became the BYU coach, while still working as an assistant coach for the NBA's Phoenix Suns.
The 6-foot-9 small forward is the consensus five-star, with several websites, including On3, 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals. all agreeing that he is the No. 1 player from the class of 2025, the No. 1 small forward, and the No. 1 player in Utah.
