On Saturday at midnight, Jake West, a Class of 2025 Northwestern basketball commit, shared a touching birthday post for his younger brother, Luke West, on his Instagram story. The heartfelt message, alongside a casual photo of the two sitting side by side, read:

While Jake, a three-star basketball prospect, has been gaining attention for his on-court achievements, this post showed a softer, more personal side of him for his brother, Luke West, who is a Class of 2028 prospect and plays for Penn Charter boy's basketball.

Jake West's top 5 college choices before committing to Northwestern

Jake West, a top-150 basketball prospect and On3's No. 16-ranked point guard from William Penn Charter School in Malvern, Philadelphia, narrowed his college options to five programs on Oct. 10: Florida, Coastal Carolina, Northwestern, UNC Charlotte and VCU.

The 6-foot-3 athlete, who played for Team Final in the Nike EYBL this summer, has attracted nationwide attention with his impressive performances. In 15 games in the event, he averaged 14.1 points and 4.0 assists per game.

He was also invited to the prestigious SLAM Summer Classic at Rucker Park, where he competed alongside top-tier talents such as Kiyan Anthony and No. 1 prospect AJ Dybantsa.

In an interview with ZAGSBLOG in October, he talked about his experience in the dunk contest:

"It was awesome. I’ve been watching that since I was a kid, so the opportunity to play in that was amazing. It was good to play with some of the top players and show I could compete on that level."

He visited Northwestern in early October and attended two practices, a team bonding dinner and a football game. According to Daily North Western, before making his final decision, he said:

"I just wanted the decision to be to meet all the requirements: amazing academic school, a great basketball program where they like to develop freshmen. I wanted to go somewhere I wanted to be for four years and have a family.”

In the interview with ZAGSBLOG, he reflected on his visit to NU:

“It was awesome. I think I really connected with the coaching staff and players, which is cool. I have good relationships with the players and it’s high level basketball, the Big 10. It’s an awesome opportunity.”

Following that visit, Jake West committed to Northwestern University on Oct. 15.
