As anticipation builds for one of college football’s most thrilling bowl matchups, Bryce Underwood, the top-ranked quarterback recruit, fueled the excitement with an Instagram story.

The showdown, scheduled for Tuesday at noon ET and airing on ESPN, features Michigan (7-5) against No. 11 Alabama (9-3). However, Michigan will be shorthanded, missing key players from their depth chart.

In addition, the Wolverines will sport blue jerseys paired with maize pants and blue accessories, as confirmed by the team on Monday. This marks the fourth consecutive bowl appearance in which Michigan dons its iconic blue tops. It continues a streak from the 2021 Orange Bowl, 2022 Fiesta Bowl and 2023 Rose Bowl.

This isn’t the first time these teams have clashed in a high-stakes game. Their previous meeting in last year’s College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl was a nail-biter.

Michigan’s blue jerseys with maize pants have brought success in five games this season, including wins over Fresno State and Michigan State. They’ve also been worn in crucial losses to Texas and Oregon.

Sherrone Moore reshapes QB room with Bryce Underwood and Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene

Michigan’s coach Sherrone Moore is making moves to revamp the Wolverines’ quarterback roster for the 2025 season, following Alex Orji’s entry into the transfer portal.

Known for a merit-based approach to selecting starters, Michigan’s philosophy faced scrutiny this offseason with the arrival of 17-year-old Bryce Underwood. The teenage prodigy boasts of an eight-figure NIL deal. However, rather than leaning on his star recruit, Moore emphasized the need for competition.

"You just want to make sure you have enough guys in the room who can push each other," Moore explained of the decision, as per Detroit Free Press. "A big thing when we recruited Bryce (he said) was, 'Who's going to push me, who's going to make me better?'"

Keene, a graduate transfer, brings extensive experience, having played 39 games during four seasons at UCF and Fresno State. He boasts a 67.8% career completion rate (793-for-1,170) with 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions.

"Mikey has been a great addition. Just the talks I've already had with him. He's excited to push Bryce, really excited to try and go challenge for that starting spot. It's not given, someone's going to have to go earn it."

His 2022 season with current Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey was particularly impressive. He completed over 72% of his passes for six touchdowns and one interception before an injury cut his season short.
