Kiyan Anthony, the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, signed with Syracuse, his father's alma mater, on Nov. 15. The Long Island Lutheran player will join the Orange next season. However, he will be present when they face Wake Forest on New Year's Eve, according to Joe Tipton of On3.
Syracuse will be looking for revenge after Wake Forest beat the Orange 99-70 in an ACC game on Feb. 3. Three Syracuse players finished with double-digit scoring, but that wasn't enough.
Anthony had offers from other top programs, including Florida State, USC, Providence, Michigan and Ohio State. However, he chose Syracuse after an official visit in late October.
According to "Inside the Loud House," Anthony also made an in-home visit with coach Adrian Autry and some of his staff, and the staff have attended some of his high school games. On3 ranks Anthony No. 30th position nationally, ninth in the shooting guard position and first in New York.
Kiyan Anthony did well playing for his father's team, Team Melo, averaging 19.6 points, 1.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. Against Pro Skills Elite, he recorded 28 points. He also had a 42-point game during the NBPA Top 100 camp in Orlando.
In the Hustle & Heart Classic game in New York on Oct. 26, Anthony displayed his shooting prowess as he scored 25 points.
“Scoring is the thing with Kiyan Anthony. He is wired to score the ball. He is comfortable off the bounce or the catch. He is starting to show comfort as a go-to type scorer," Tipton wrote in a scouting report on Anthony.
Kiyan Anthony talks about his nervous encounter with Drake
Kiyan Anthony, a Middle Village, New York, native talked about meeting Canadian rapper Drake in a video uploaded by Overtime on Sept. 16, 2023.
"No, it wasn't the first time (meeting Drake), but it was the first time in a minute," Anthony said (Timestamp: 19:09). "Like, I didn't know he was going to recognize me like that and come up to me. And I didn't, yeah, it was just, I was panicking. I'm not going to lie, yeah. He was like, 'Keep going.'
"That was definitely one of the biggest, you know, points of the summer besides basketball stuff."
Anthony will be accompanied by Aaron Womack, Luke Fennell and Sadiq White in Syracuse, which his father led to the 2003 NCAA championship, after signing with the Orange last month.
