A recent high school football game in Alabama turned chaotic after a brawl in the stands led to the expulsion of Citronelle High School quarterback Daylon Edmunds from the team. The incident unfolded after Citronelle’s 14-7 victory over UMS-Wright, escalating when tensions between spectators erupted into physical violence.
According to WKRG, two parents, Chris Edmunds and Stephen Byrd, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after the altercation. Video footage captured the moment when Byrd allegedly lunged at Edmunds, leading to a physical confrontation.
Edmunds can be seen retaliating with a punch, and his son, Daylon Edmunds, soon becomes involved. The footage shows Daylon running toward the commotion and allegedly punching Byrd.
In response to the fight, Citronelle Police Chief Chris McLean emphasized that the altercation does not represent the Citronelle community or its football program.
"While this is a disappointing situation, it is not a reflection of the Citronelle community, school and football program," Citronelle Police Chief Chris McLean told WKRG.
"Coach Jason Rowell has worked hard to build the Wildcat program the right way; this was a situation in the stands between individuals who chose to begin a fight."
As a result of his actions, Daylon Edmunds was suspended from school for a week and removed from the football team. Mobile County Public Schools District Athletic Director Brad Lowell referred to the incident as a "minor altercation." He stated that the district is investigating to ensure the situation is handled according to policy.
Alabama high school football coach suspended for unauthorized filming of opponent
Enterprise (Ala.) High School head football coach Ben Blackmon has been suspended for one game by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). This is after a video surfaced, showing him and an assistant improperly recording a future opponent.
WKRG reported that Blackmon was seen alongside an assistant coach filming Opelika's game against Dothan last Friday. Enterprise is set to face Opelika in their next matchup.
AHSAA bylaws prohibit schools from recording contests they are not participating in unless granted permission from both involved teams.
In response to the suspension, Blackmon accepted the ruling.
“We received a letter stating that I am suspended for Friday’s game. I accept the ruling and will not appeal,” Blackmon said. “I did not direct our young coach to record that video, but I didn’t stop the action either. I’ve scouted games thousands of times … there’s never been video taken. This is the first time and the last time.”
Currently, Enterprise holds a 4-2 record, with victories over Andalusia, Pike Road, Dothan and Carver, while their losses came against No. 1-ranked Auburn and No. 4 Phenix City Central. The Wildcats are ranked 12th in Alabama, according to the On3 Massey Ratings.
