The Los Angeles County faces an alarming situation. On Tuesday, The Pacific Palisades brush fire broke out in South California and has spread to nearly 3,000 acres, burning homes and fields on its way.
Palisades Charter High School also faced the brunt. The high school has lost its baseball and football field to the engulfing flames. This morning, Fox Los Angeles' Matthew Seedorff posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing the charred grounds.
"Flames have erupted at Palisades Charter High School #PalisadeFire," Seedorff wrote.
Even Seedorff's cameraman Sam Dubin went to Palisades High and lamented the situation.
"This is heartbreaking. This is my alma mater. The baseball field is totally gone, some of the buildings are gone," Dubin said.
The high school is still on winter break and is scheduled to resume next Monday. However, there were some staff members and student-athletes present on the campus who were quickly evacuated.
On Tuesday, Jeff Bryant, Palisades High's basketball coach, had scheduled a practice session at 11 a.m., but the plan was scrapped after the news of the wildfire reached him.
"We saw fire above our parking structure," Bryant said. "The wind was bad. I had my 2-year-old with me. I ran straight to the car and got on the road."
“Smoke hadn’t come yet. We got out just in time. We beat the traffic on Sunset," Bryant added.
Los Angeles Unified School District has issued updates regarding the school location. Palisades Charter Elementary School will be relocated to Brentwood Elementary Science Magnet.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire started at 10:30 a.m. near 1190 North Piedra Morada and has since spread quickly.
