Aaliyah Chavez, a five-star prospect, made her official visit to the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday, October 18. The Monterey High School’s 5-foot-10 guard is the No.1 recruit in the 2025 Class. The Lubbock-born player has offers from five institutions, including Texas Tech, Texas, UCLA, South Carolina, and the Sooners. LSU was the sixth school on the list, but they recently withdrew their offer.
Chavez shared her thoughts about the Sooners with On3 in the summer. One positive that Chavez mentioned about the Sooners was that it is not far from her home. She told the media house that she loves the Sooners coach, Jennie Baranczyk.
“She’s the head coach that I usually talk to. She’s very young, and I like how they just play basketball,” Chavez said.
She added that the Sooners don’t force anything and just play their game. Chavez wants to feel at home wherever she goes, and the youngster believes Oklahoma can be that place for her.
“The most important thing is to make sure I’m in a place where I have high energy,” Chavez said.
Aaliyah Chavez is certain about staying for four years wherever she goes and expects the institution to retain the coach for the same duration as well.
“I want them to be there all four years. Because that’s what I’m getting recruited off of, right? I want to be there all four years.” Chavez concluded.
Which school will Aaliyah Chavez pick?
According to On3, Chavez is the highest-ranked recruit in the Class of 2025. She also visited the Texas Longhorns last month, and attended their SEC home opener against Mississippi State on September 28.
Texas and Texas Tech were looking like her top two preferences. However, her visit to Oklahoma has changed the scenario. On3 had predicted that the Sooners have a 51.6% chance of landing Chavez, followed by Texas Tech and Texas with 16% and 13.7%, respectively.
West Coast power UCLA and defending national champion South Carolina are in contention as well.

Chavez charted 29.6 pps, 4.3 rpg, and 3.7 apg in the Nike EYBL circuit this summer. Top schools will try their best to add her to their roster. But since Chavez is a Texas-born, Texas-based franchises might have an edge.
The Sooners have already signed forward Raegan Beers via the transfer portal. Now, they have their eyes on the top recruit of the 2025 Class.
