Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns are preparing to host a major recruiting target as five-star small forward Nate Ament plans to make his first official visit to the University of Texas. Ament, a 6-foot-9 forward hailing from Highland High School (VA), has emerged as one of the top prospects in the 2025 Class.

Ranked No. 3 overall by On3 in the class, Ament holds offers from basketball powerhouses such as Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Georgetown, Virginia, UConn, Kansas, and Kansas State, among others. Despite interest from numerous elite programs, this will be Ament's first known official visit.

Ament, part of the elite Five-Star Plus+ group, has already visited Virginia and Duke unofficially. According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, Ament was a standout performer at the CBG Fall Series.

Kentucky has been aggressive in pursuing Ament since the spring, with head coach John Calipari and assistant Cody Fueger maintaining strong communication with him.

Speaking about Kentucky, Ament told On3:

“We were supposed to have a visit with them, but it got canceled unfortunately. I am going to schedule another one with them here soon. Coach Pope is a really passionate guy. He talks basketball a lot. His message to me is to keep shooting and keep being the player I want to be and Kentucky is one of those places I can go and shine as the player I am.”

Kentucky has already secured commitments from guard Jasper Johnson and center Malachi Moreno for 2025-26. Nate Ament has regularly shone during a summer loaded with high-profile tournaments like the Adidas 3SSB and the Nike Skills Academy.

Nate Ament invited to USA Basketball men’s junior national team minicamp

Manassas native Nate Ament has earned a spot among 83 athletes invited to the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team minicamp, scheduled for October 11-13 at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Off the court, athletes will participate in educational sessions on life skills and eligibility, organized by USA Basketball, the NCAA, and the NBA Player Development Program.

Before transferring to Highland for the 2023-24 season, Ament spent his first two high school years at Colgan. His outstanding performance earned him the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II co-boys basketball player of the year honor.

Leading Highland to the state final, Ament’s team fell short against Miller with a 64-44 loss.
