Rutgers guard Dylan Harper reacted to No. 1 recruit AJ Dybantsa's commitment to BYU. The 6-9 small forward took to his Instagram page to announce his official commitment in a video featuring Red Bull.
Harper took to the comments section of the image posted by the BYU basketball team account in collaboration with Dybantsa to give a reaction.
"Ooouuuuu," commented Dylan Harper.
"WELCOME TO THE Y." the post was captioned.
Dybantsa's final four teams were Alabama, North Carolina, BYU and Kansas. Earlier, his father, Ace Dybantsa, stated the Utah Prep High School player would announce his decision in Feb. 2025 to honor the Black History month. However, Dybantsa told ESPN about the change of plans.
"The original plan was to commit in February." Dybantsa told ESPN's Paul Biancardi. "If I know where I want to go, why wait? It's probably going to be in December. I feel I will be ready by then."
Dybantsa mentioned his desire to play in the NBA and while talking to On3, the Brockton, MA native talked in length about head coach Kevin Young's NBA experience and how it helped him shape his decision.
“Kevin Young was an NBA coach, so he is telling me that he will bring a lot of NBA styles and concepts to the program. He told me that he thought he would be a good coach to help me get to that next level," he said.
“It’s good that he has NBA experience. I mean, I’m trying to get to the NBA, so anyone that has NBA experience or anyone that has brought people to the NBA or coached in the NBA is going to have knowledge for that."
Dybantsa becomes BYU's third commitment
Young's 2025 class ranks eighth nationally, third in the Big 12 and has an average NIL value of $2.8 million (according to On3) with Dybantsa's arrival.
Before Dybantsa, the Cougars got a commitment from three-star power forward Chamberlain Burgess on Sep. 30. Burgess is ranked at the 158th spot nationally. They also received the commitment of the four-star big man Xavion Staton on Nov. 4. Staton ranks at the 29th position nationally.
