In a significant boost to Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class, four-star defensive lineman DJ Sanders has committed to the Aggies, spurning offers from Texas, Michigan and other top programs.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 290 pounds, Sanders is highly regarded, ranking as the No. 79 player nationally and the No. 8 defensive lineman in the On3 Industry Rankings. His decision to join Mike Elko’s team has stirred excitement among Aggie fans.
Reactions from the college football community have been swift, with some Texas fans expressing frustration over losing out on the talented lineman.
"HAHAHA SARK SHOVED IN A LOCKER," one fan quipped.
"Smart decision, young man, over Texas," another fan said.
Aggie fans welcomed Sanders to the team and shared their excitement.
"Sark stuffed in a locker once again by Elko," a fan said.
"Congratulations DJ!! Welcome! Beat the hell outta the SEC!," a fan said.
Despite Texas making a strong push for in-state talent, Sanders ultimately chose Texas A&M, joining a growing list of elite recruits in the Aggies' 2025 class. He adds to a group that includes four-star prospects such as cornerback Deyjhon Pettaway, running back Deondrae Riden, and linebacker Kelvion Riggins, who all hail from Texas.
Sanders' commitment further solidifies Texas A&M's recruiting momentum, especially within the Lone Star State. Sanders has an impressive high school career, earning the Texas District 10-4A-II Defensive MVP title as a sophomore and the Texas District 12-4A-II Defensive Newcomer of the Year honor as a freshman.
DJ Sanders bolsters Aggies' 2025 recruiting class
Known for his elite size, strength and athleticism, DJ Sanders chose the Aggies over Texas and Michigan, a decision that many believe positions well for the future success of The Bellville, Texas native.
"First off, his [DJ Sanders] athletic ability, everybody sees that,” Bellville High School coach Grady Rowe told Rivals.com in February. “He’s 6-3, 315 pounds, but he’s light on his feet, can move. That’s the first thing that sticks out, that he can move, can bend. He’s just so athletic. And then he’s explosive at the same time. You don’t see a lot of 300-pounders that can move like he can move.”
During his junior season in 2023, Sanders amassed 115 tackles, 15 sacks and 28 tackles for loss. With 20 commitments already, the Aggies are poised to challenge for a top-three finish if a few more key targets fall their way.
