Four-star wide receiver Donovan Murph committed to South Carolina's 2025 class on Thursday during the Under Armour All-America game in DeLand, Florida. The standout prospect from Irmo High School (South Carolina) chose Shane Beamer's program over finalists Ole Miss, Clemson, Colorado and Tennessee.
The Gamecocks had long been the favorite to land the 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect, due to being his in-state program and his familial ties to the program as the cousin of South Carolina legend Alshon Jeffery.
However, Clemson made a strong in-state push, and Deion Sanders’ Colorado staff made a late effort to sway the receiver.
Murph, who was originally a part of the 2026 recruiting class, reclassified to 2025 on Oct. 1. He made an immediate impact during his junior season by racking up 96 receptions for 1,328 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Donovan Murph is the No. 291 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 44 wide receiver in the 2025 class and the No. 7 prospect in South Carolina.
Donovan Murph opens up about his commitment to South Carolina
Being an in-state prospect, Donovan Murph made multiple game-day visits to South Carolina this year, including the Gamecocks' 17-14 win over Clemson on Nov. 30.
"South Carolina was the school that stayed consistent with me," Murph said (via ESPN). "All fall they were showing me love and letting me know they believed in my talent. That played a big role in my recruitment."
Murph was recruited to Shane Beamer's program by first-year wide receiver coach Mike Furrey, whom he lauded as a great coach from a developmental standpoint. However, the entire Gamecocks coaching staff played a role as well in his commitment to the school.
"One would think that I go there and only the receivers coach is showing me love," Murph told On3.
"But I know everybody up there, the quarterbacks coach – Mike Shula – who just got hired, coach Beamer, coach Gray and coach Lucas. All of those coaches, they show me so much love and it feels like a family."
Murph is the sixth wide receiver in South Carolina's 2025 class, joining Malik Clark, Lex Cyrus, Jordon Gidron, Brian Rowe and Jayden Sellers.
With his commitment, the Gamecocks have 26 committed prospects, alongside eight transferred players. He will enroll to the school in the summer, while his receiver teammates will do so this month.
