While her father and brothers are known names in football, Shelomi Sanders is making a name for herself in another sport, basketball. The daughter of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and the sister of Colorado Buffaloes football stars Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, Shelomi Sanders plays for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. But how good was she in high school?
A combo guard from high school to today, Shelomi Sanders averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game during her senior year of high school with Rockwall-Heath during the 2021-2022 season. She was good enough to be named first-team All-District for District 10 6A in Texas.
Shelomi Sanders was a known shooter in high school, with a scary jump shot and a knack for sinking 3-pointers. She was all this despite suffering from Type I Diabetes, although she received support from her family in that regard.
After graduating high school, Shelomi Sanders went to Jackson State, where her father and brothers were. However, she only played two games there as she soon transferred to Boulder to be part of the Colorado Buffaloes, following her father and brothers there.
She did not last long there, though, transferring to Alabama A&M, a decision her father was unhappy about. The Buffs coach called the decision "stupid" but still wished her luck.
Shelomi Sanders opens up about her decision to transfer from Colorado to Alabama A&M
During her time at Colorado, Shelomi Sanders admitted she felt it was time to pivot away from her family, especially as her brother, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, was already preparing to leave for the NFL. She wanted to make her career in college sports and needed to leave Colorado to do this.
Shelomi Sanders got feedback from her mother, Pilar, and decided to leave the school. She announced her decision during a livestream in August.
“I don’t want to say anything too bad,” she said. “It just wasn’t good energy. It wasn’t good vibes. There wasn’t enough being poured into me as a player and young lady. If I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would’ve quit.”
When still with the Buffaloes, Shelomi Sanders only played five games, scoring only three points during a road game against Air Force. She played a total of 11 minutes with Colorado before leaving the school.
