Four-star prospect Ivan Taylor from West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida, has flipped his commitment from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the Michigan Wolverines. The 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback had pledged to Notre Dame on Dec. 1, 2023, but made the switch to coach Sherrone Moore's team on Monday afternoon.
Despite visiting Notre Dame several times and expressing continued interest in the program following his official visit in June, Taylor kept his options open. His June visits also included stops in Alabama and Michigan. Ultimately, it was his experience during the Wolverines Victors Weekend that swayed his decision.
“I had a good time with all the coaches,” Ivan Taylor told On3. “Coach (LaMar) Morgan, Coach Wink (Martindale) and Coach (Sherrone) Moore all seemed like good, genuine people.
"Coach Moore has a good staff around him. Nobody has anything bad to say about Coach Moore because he’s a good guy and wants what’s best for the team.”
Taylor reposted the above post on his X account to seemingly confirm his move to Ann Arbor.
Defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan's dedication played a significant role as well. He traveled to Florida to meet with Taylor and his family during the spring evaluation period, making the prospect a priority and providing clarity on his position.
"They said (I'd play) the free safety position," Ivan Taylor said (via Griffin Daily News). "A lot of colleges have been saying nickel, and I think they're really the first ones to say free safety."
Taylor's commitment marks the fourth de-commitment for Notre Dame in the 2025 recruiting cycle, following tight end Nate Roberts, wide receiver Shaun Terry and defensive end CJ May.
Ivan Taylor is the son of former NFL defensive back Ike Taylor, who had a distinguished 12-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, winning two Super Bowls and recording 134 pass breakups and 14 interceptions.
Sherrone Moore hypes Ivan Taylor's commitment
Ivan Taylor ranked as one of the highest-rated prospects committed to Notre Dame in the 2025 class before pulling his pledge. After managing to flip his commitment to the Wolverines, coach Sherrone Moore couldn’t resist his happiness on X with a post, writing:
"Yes Sir 🔵🔵 #GoBlue #SMASH."
Taylor is ranked by On3 as the No. 132 overall prospect nationally, the No. 14 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 21 overall recruit in Florida. 247Sports lists him as the No. 7 safety and No. 41 overall prospect nationally, the No. 2 safety in the class and the No. 5 overall recruit in the state. He recorded 45 total tackles, six tackles for loss and one interception during his junior season.
Michigan's 2025 recruiting class boasts several other four-star recruits, including Nathaniel Marshall, Kainoa Winston, Jaylen Williams, Avery Gach and Carter Smith, among others.
