Four-star linebacker Gavin Nix, a standout from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, has been a highly sought-after prospect for the class of 2025 due to his exceptional three-down capabilities. After previously visiting the Florida State Seminoles, Duke Blue Devils, Miami Hurricanes and Oregon Ducks, he committed to Miami on July 1. However, his recruitment is far from over.
Nix is a hot target for several schools, with Michigan emerging as a serious contender. According to On3’s EJ Holland, the Wolverines are aggressively pursuing him, hoping to flip his commitment, as communication picks up.
Michigan's interest is a surprise, given that the Wolverines were not initially seen as a major player in Nix's recruitment, and according to 247Sports, they have not extended an offer to the linebacker. In June, he listed his top six schools as Florida State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Miami, Ohio State and Stanford.
However, Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines have been actively recruiting for their 2025 class, currently holding a commitment from three-star linebacker Chase Taylor from Georgia. Michigan is still hunting for several uncommitted prospects, including Tarrell Greene, Christopher Koffi, Xavier Goulbourne, Kris Thompson, Christian Pierce, Elijah Melendez and Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng.
Gavin Nix's senior season performance so far
After a surprising setback in their season opener, Gavin Nix's IMG bounced back with a solid 27-14 victory over Bergen Catholic in New Jersey on Aug. 29. They continued their momentum with a commanding 34-13 win against back-to-back state champions Cocoa on Friday, securing a 2-1 record so far.
In the 2024 season, Nix has played in three games, recording 15 tackles (13 solo and two assisted), one for loss and two for quarterback hurries. Last season, he totaled 42 tackles, seven for loss, five quarterback hurries and one sack.
Gavin Nix is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 88 prospect in the nation, the No. 11 linebacker in the 2025 class and the No. 15 recruit in Florida. Rivals places him as the nation's No. 191 prospect, the No. 5 linebacker in the class and the No. 23 recruit in the state.
