Michigan's recruitment momentum continues, and one of the key targets for the Wolverines in the 2026 class is five-star prospect Elbert Hill, also known as Elbert “Rock” Hill. The nation's No. 1 cornerback is set to visit Sherrone Moore's program later this month, as per On3.

The standout prospect from Archbishop Hoban High School (Ohio) revealed his top 10 schools, featuring USC, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Alabama, Penn State and UCLA, alongside the Wolverines. On3's Steve Wiltfong identified Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan and Penn State as programs to watch closely.

As an in-state program, Ohio State currently leads in Hill’s recruitment. An early prediction from On3 gives the Buckeyes an 81.5% chance of landing the five-star prospect, while UM trails at just 2.7%.

However, with the ever-changing nature of recruitment, momentum can shift quickly. Sherrone Moore and his coaching staff also pulled off one of the biggest wins in the 2025 class recruitment by flipping the nation's No. 1 prospect, Bryce Underwood. For the nation's top cornerback, like Hill, they might follow the same approach as a lucrative NIL deal.

However, Hill is not in a hurry to make the decision, as revealed by Hoban coach Tim Tyrrell (via Beacon Journal).

"I think Rock has handled this process very well and very professionally. He is taking his time and looking at each school individually," Tyrrell said.

Elbert Hill raves about Michigan

Elbert Hill received an offer from the Wolverines two years ago, and since then, the Big Ten school remained high on his list.

"I feel great about Michigan," Hill told On3. "It’s a great school and a great place for me to develop on and off the field as a man."

Former Wolverines defensive backs coach and current LA Chargers DBs coach Steve Clinkscale was Hill's primary recruiter at UM.

“(Steve Clinkscale) is a great man. He loves my work ethic and loves that I always listen,” Hill said.

Though Clinkscale followed Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers, the Michigan coaching staff continued pursuing the cornerback.

Hill is the No. 1 recruit in Ohio, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. If he commits to the Wolverines, he will join cornerback Brody Jennings and wide receiver Jaylen Pile in the Wolverines' 2026 class.
