The Michigan Wolverines are experiencing a surge in recruiting under head coach Sherrone Moore as they prepare for a major recruiting weekend. Among the high-profile attendees for their upcoming game against Michigan State is Georgia commit and blue-chip cornerback Shamari Earls.
Earls is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the nation, ranked as the No. 1 recruit in Virginia, the No. 4 cornerback and the No. 23 player overall, according to On3.
Initially committed to South Carolina, Earls flipped to the University of Georgia on Jul. 7. However, Michigan has maintained significant interest in Earls. Despite their earlier setback in flipping his commitment, the Wolverines’ recruitment efforts continue to intensify.
Recently, 247Sports’ Sam Webb placed a Crystal Ball Prediction, indicating that Michigan is now a likely candidate to sway Earls from Georgia.
In preparation for his upcoming visit, Michigan has focused on building a strong connection with Earls, who praised the Wolverines’ coaching staff.
“I’m already close to the whole staff,” Earls told The Wolverine’s EJ Holland. “They really got to know me. I feel like I hung out with Coach Moore equally as much as I did with Coach Morgan."
He also highlighted Moore’s personable approach:
"Coach Moore was really cool. We talked about shoes. I hung out with Coach Wink (Martindale), who is a really cool guy, too. He has a lot of NFL knowledge. I really like Coach Morgan."
"He has a lot of ball knowledge, being a defensive coordinator at UL (Louisiana). The way the guys have trust it him is what made me believe in him more. The campus is beautiful. It’s huge. It’s one of the best I’ve seen, hands down. Ann Arbor is amazing."
Currently ranked 12th nationally by On3, Michigan’s recruiting class is on an upward trajectory, particularly when evaluating average player ranking and blue-chip ratio.
