No. 114 recruit in the Class of 2025, Jermaine O'Neal Jr., committed to SMU on Sep. 18. The Dallas, Texas native showed his worth after scoring 19 points while shooting 66.6% for Dynamic Prep.
The match that took place in The Bash, an International Elite High School Basketball Showcase in Columbia, South Carolina, saw Dynamic Prep take a dominating 101-58 win against the Lancaster Bruins. The official Instagram page of The Bash Hoops shared the feat:
With this win, Dynamic Prep has now won five matches by a 33-point difference or more this season. Another player who led the team to win was Carlsheon Young, who fell short of a double-double after scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Ryan Hampton added 12 points on 50% shooting.
As for O'Neal Jr., the 6-foot-5 small forward is ranked as the 25th best in his position and ninth in Texas, he had offers from Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and more but committed to SMU.
In three seasons for Dynamic Prep, O'Neal Jr. is averaging 13.9 points, 1.9 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 59 matches.
He has shown an improvement every season, averaging 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.6 blocks in 22 matches in his sophomore year in 2022-23. In the following season, the four-star recruit played 23 games and scored 13.7 points, grabbed 6.7 rebounds, dished out 3.0 assists, had 1.6 steals, and blocked the ball 1.2 times per contest.
This season, he entered his senior year and has played 14 matches so far, averaging 15.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks.

Son of the six-time NBA All-Star and coach of the Dynamic Prep Jermaine O'Neal, O'Neal Jr. was visited by the SMU coach Andy Enfield plenty of times.
According to On3, the four-star recruit was re-offered by the Mustangs when he visited them in the summer. However, the signing was confirmed after his official visit in early September.
O'Neal also spoke about his visit while talking with the publication:
“The visit went great,” O’Neal told On3, adding, “I love the coaching staff and how they appreciate me for me. I love the school and everything they’re building there especially since they’re now in the ACC. So in all it was a very good visit.”
He will now join Jaden Toombs, Nigel Walls, and BJ Davis-Ray in the Mustangs next season.
