Four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou committed to the Texas Longhorns' 2025 class on Saturday. He committed to Florida on July 31 but received multiple offers in the last few months and decommitted from the Gators on Oct. 21.
“Florida was right there, but with Texas, it is mainly the people that make it special,” Mbatchou said, via On3. “I believe fully in coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian), coach Kenny Baker and all those people. I believe they have my best interest in mind.”
Mbatchou, who was born in Cameroon, also received offers from other programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Auburn, Tennessee and USC.
Mbatchou joins Grayson High School (Georgia) teammate Nick Brooks, who committed to Texas in August. Mbatchou's pledge brought its 2025 class commitments to 24, with five from the defensive front. Along with Mbatchou, the Longhorns' defensive line group includes Josiah Sharma, Lance Jackson, Myron Charles and Smith Orogbo.
Texas' 2025 class is ranked No. 4 in the nation and No. 3 in the Southeastern Conference. It also includes a pair of five-star prospects — Jonah Williams and Kaliq Lockett.
DL coach Kenny Baker played a big role in Joseph Mbatchou's Texas Longhorns commitment
Joseph Mbatchou received an offer from the Texas Longhorns in August, and his first trip to Austin was on Sept. 14, where he watched the school's 56-7 victory over UTSA. He returned for a second visit on Oct. 19, during the Longhorns’ 30-15 loss to Georgia, and a third visit on Saturday.
One key figure in Mbatchou's recruitment was Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker, who has targeted him over the last few months.
“Since coach Baker came out to my game, we have been talking a lot, he has sent a lot of mail and I realized how much he really cares about me," Mbatchou said, via On3.
Joseph Mbatchou is the No. 257 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the No. 22 defensive lineman in his class and the No. 36 player in Georgia.
