Four-star linebacker Jaedon Harmon, a prospect from Rome, Georgia, surprised many by switching his commitment from Alabama to Tennessee on Sunday. Harmon, who had initially committed to the Crimson Tide on April 14, announced his change of heart via X (formerly known as Twitter).
"I want to thank the entire Alabama staff for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play for a great program! Respect my decision," Harmon tweeted, while tagging UT linebackers coach William Inge and coach Josh Heupel.
The news of Harmon’s flip comes as a blow to Alabama fans. They expressed frustration and disappointment at losing a highly sought-after recruit to a rival.
“Tennessee taking our leftovers what’s new,” One fan tweeted.
"This one hits a little different," another fan tweeted.
"Tennessee recruiting is on fire right now.. They finally got the blank check or what??" A fan tweeted
"Don't give a damn 'bout the whole State of Alabama," a fan tweeted.
Jaedon Harmon was a top target for several major programs, boasting nearly 40 scholarship offers. Notable offers came from Ohio State, Texas, Clemson, LSU, Michigan and Miami. Despite his initial commitment to Alabama, Harmon had frequently visited Knoxville and developed strong connections with the Tennessee coaching staff.
Harmon’s commitment brings Tennessee's total to 23 for the 2025 cycle. Cornerback Onis Konabanny should announce his decision between Florida State and Tennessee on Friday.
Tennessee lands Jaedon Harmon, defeating Alabama in a notable victory
Tennessee secured a commitment from four-star linebacker Jaedon Harmon. He was ranked as the No. 155 player and No. 18 linebacker in the 2025 class by 247Sports Composite.
In an interview with On3, Harmon shared why Tennessee stood out.
“Even when I had no offers, I went down there, and they had treated me the same as they treat me now. It was equal, and that is a big part to me,” Harmon told On3.
This decision strengthens the Vols’ recruiting class and marks a rare triumph over Alabama. Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge, who previously worked under DeBoer at Washington, had also influenced Harmon's decision.
“I see myself being able to fit into that scheme great. Just because of the way they use their inside backers, then the ways they use their WILL backers and send them off the edge and use them to cover. It is all stuff that I am really good at.”
Harmon is set to begin his senior season at Rome High School. He posted impressive stats as a junior, recording 80 tackles, five sacks, eight tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, and an interception. He joins a strong Tennessee class comprising standout recruits like quarterback George MacIntyre, offensive lineman Douglas Utu and wide receiver Travis Smith.
