The Tennessee Volunteers' Braylon Staley gave back to his alma mater with a humble gesture. On Friday, the young athlete donated $6,000 to Strom Thurmond High School during his home visit to Aiken, South Carolina.
Staley's father, Brian, posted about this initiative on X:
"Today, Braylon came back to Thurmond to be a blessing because God has blessed him to be just that. Man, when I tell you that you never know who you're coaching or who's in your building!! Coaches, we appreciate you guys so much! Luv you guys," Brian wrote.
During his trip home, Braylon Staley was back on the turf, working out the high school football players all week. And on Friday, he presented his contribution.
Coach Andrew Webb praised this moment and thanked Staley for his efforts, per WRDW.com.
"We are thankful for him. We are very proud of him. We love him and are always pulling for him!” Webb said.
Webb mentioned that this grant will be used for the purchase of new shoulder pads for the team.
On Dec. 20, 2023, Braylon signed with Tennessee. In his freshman season, he played three games against Kent State, Mississippi State and UTEP, recording one reception for 10 yards.
Last year in December, Tennessee Volunteers coach Josh Heupal spoke about Staley's prospects against Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.
"Braylon has done a great job," Heupel said. "Young player, just has continued to grow through the winter, through the spring, through the summer. More opportunities, chose to play in the four, kept the redshirt, but he is more than ready to go and play in this one."
