Texas High School football players were punished for their "unsportsmanlike" behavior after they were seen smacking their opponent's rear end with a belt. The incident happened after the Week 5 game between the Willis Wildkats and Cleveland Indians on Sept. 27.
Willis High School dismantled the Indians, 77-0, and proceeded to perform a social media trend after the game that saw some of the players smacking their opponents' behind with a belt. They performed this act under the disguise of the "belt to a**" challenge.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media as a few Willis players were seen hitting their opponents with a belt during the customary handshakes after the game. One player, in particular, was captured hitting multiple players with the belt while some of his teammates were seen waving the belts in the air and dancing with them.
The Willis Independent School District condemned the actions of the players and suspended those involved in the terrible act.
"We are deeply disappointed by the unsportsmanlike conduct displayed by some of our football players following last week’s game against Cleveland," the school district said in a statement. "We have been in communication with the UL (University Interscholastic League) and have submitted our proposed disciplinary actions for review."
The statement revealed that the players involved are "required to complete community service, and have undergone disciplinary measures during football practice." Per the school district, the players involved will be suspended for the first half of their next game.
Willis Wildkats are unbeaten through six games this season
The Willis Wildkats have been one of the best teams in the Texas High School football circuit this season. They are unbeaten through six weeks and have destroyed most of their opponents so far.
They began their season with an impressive win over the Benjamin Davis Falcons and haven't looked back since. They have outscored their opponents by double-digit points in four of their six games and have scored more than 30 points in each.
Their biggest win came in Week 5 against the Cleveland Indians. The Wildkats bulldozed the Indians, 77-0. The majority of their points came in the first half, as they scored 28 points in the first quarter and 35 in the next one.
Their latest win came against the College Park Cavaliers last Friday. They won the game 45-21 and improved to 6-0. Their next game will be against the New Caney Eagles on Friday. The Eagles are yet to win a game this season, and the Wildkats will fancy their chances to improve their record to 7-0.
