Five-star quarterback Deuce Knight didn’t get to see a good sight of Auburn after flipping his commitment from Notre Dame, as the school had been mostly on the losing end. But there was a totally different scenario on Saturday as the Tigers beat No. 15 Texas A&M 43-41 in four overtimes at sold-out Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The win improved Auburn’s record to 5-6 overall and 2-6 in Southeastern Conference play. After the final whistle, thousands of the Tigers fans stormed the field to celebrate the dramatic win, and Knight was also one of them.
"Oh yeah, you know I rushed the field, you know I got on the field," Knight told On3. Man, that just sums up everything you know about SEC ball."
Auburn coach Hugh Freeze couldn’t praise his players enough.
"Our kids have fought all year," Freeze told War Eagle. "Give (Texas A&M) credit for coming back but give our kids credit. I'm ecstatic that our seniors get to go out with their last game in Jordan-Hare being a win like this."
The win also witnessed standout performances, including that of former Texas A&M wide receiver commit Cam Coleman. He dazzled with two first-half touchdowns and finished with 128 receiving yards. He celebrated the victory with a live locker room stream, which Knight joined as well.
Auburn’s focus now shifts to the regular-season finale, the Iron Bowl, as they prepare to face No. 7 Alabama in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday.
Deuce Knight reaffirms his commitment to Auburn
Deuce Knight's visit to Ole Miss for its 28-10 win over Georgia on Nov. 9 sparked rumors that he might not be fully committed to Auburn. However, any doubts were put to rest after Knight attended the Tigers' win over Texas A&M, as he firmly reaffirmed his commitment, saying (via On3):
"It just made me feel great about (my commitment). I feel like I'm at home here."
Ole Miss has been aggressively pursuing Auburn’s commitments. The Rebels flipped four-star cornerback Dante Core and are targeting five-star edge rusher Jared Smith. But dissing all the discussion, Knight is ready to play his part for Auburn next season.
"I'm at home here," Knight said. "We can come in January and take over."
After Auburn’s victory, Knight tweeted his excitement, writing,
“WDE!! It’s up next fall!!”
Deuce Knight is ranked by On3 as the No. 1 recruit in Mississippi, the No. 26 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 6 quarterback in the 2025 class.
