Aaliyah Chavez, the No. 1 ranked prospect from the Class of 2025, has shown that she can get things done on both ends of the floor. She showed her defensive prowess during the Monterey Lady Plainsmen's 74-43 win over Lubbock High School on Tuesday. However, she frustrated the player she was defending so much that she pushed the five-star to the floor.
The Lubbock player was trying to get past Chavez, even trying to do a spin move. However, the five-star point guard managed to tap the ball away, leading the opposing player to push Chavez to the floor. This got an immediate reaction from the comments section, with many talking about Chavez's hand-checking:
"Toooo much hand checking wtf," said one commenter.
"Pulled out all her moves and got nothing I’d be mad too," said another commenter.
"I mean she did hand check the ball handler the entire possession but she still cant do all that," another person pointed out.
Meanwhile, others were just praising Chavez on how she handled things on the defensive end:
"This is when you KNOW you getting clamped up!! Damn!! 😮😮," one commenter pointed out.
"This the second time I saw somebody push her like that, she gotta be trolling lol," another commenter noted.
"Whew she handled that soooo well 👏 Aaliyah 🔥🔥🔥🔥 definitely part of what makes you YOU…Excuse me H.E.R 💪🏽💪🏽🎊," one person commented.
Chavez and Monterey will be playing against Amarillo next, with the game scheduled on Dec. 20. They will then finish the year against Lubbock-Cooper on New Year's Eve.
The Tascosa Lady Rebels upset No. 1 ranked Chavez and the Monterey Lady Plainsmen
Even since losing to No. 1 ranked sophomore Kaleena Smith and the Ontario Christian Knights, Chavez and the Lady Plainsmen have bounced back with a four-game winning streak, which included that heated win against Lubbock. The next game, however, that winning streak was snapped as Monterey was upset by the Tascosa Lady Rebels on Friday.
Tascosa is the No. 10 ranked team in Texas, while Monterey is the No. 1 ranked. However, it was Tascosa who came out on top, escaping with a one-point victory, 61-60. Chavez led all scorers with 19 points, but her efforts were not enough for Monterey. Nic’Kiyah Fisher, Alex Carter, and Tryssa Dowd each scored 13 points for the Lady Rebels.
