In an interview with the Pittsburgh Union, Thomas stated that he takes pride in his defense as well, and that it sets him apart from the rest of the players:
"I take pride in defense. The more you get into the season, the harder the games become.
He added:
"The atmosphere becomes bigger. Everything just gets more serious, more intense. So, if I lollygagged around on defense, I would be viewed as a completely different player."
For the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, Thomas averaged a double-double as he scored 23.5 points, grabbed 10.8 boards, dished out 5.8 assists, and stole the ball 3.3 times per game. He led the charge for his school to win two straight 4A PIAA Championships in 2023 and 2024. Furthermore, he averaged 27.7 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 4.4 apg, and 1.7 spg in the 2024-25 OTE.
While playing for the New Heights Lightning in the Nike EYBL, he averaged 20.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, and 2.4 apg, on 27 minutes per game.
Why did Meleek Thomas join Arkansas?
With offers from top programs nationwide, including Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Auburn, and Kansas State, among others, Meleek Thomas committed to the Razorbacks on Nov. 11.
He talked about his decision with On3:
“When I was making my college decision, I wanted to make sure that everything was a fit from play style and how they will use me on the team but also that it felt like home to me and my family,” said Thomas.
"Family is so important to me – and with Coach Cal [John Calipari] and the team at Arkansas, I felt at home. I am going to spend my senior season at OTE, just developing and continuing to be the best player I can so I can make an impact in Fayetteville right away.”
Meleek Thomas will now join five-star Darius Acuff and four-star Isaiah Sealy next season in John Calipari's team.
