Aaliyah Chavez and Kaleena Smith, two of the nation’s top high school basketball players, went head-to-head on Saturday in a showdown that fans are still buzzing about. Although the game didn’t go Chavez’s way as Kaleena Smith-led Ontario Christian dominated with an 82-50 victory over Monterey, both players showcased why they’re considered the future of women’s basketball.

An Instagram account - Billionairevsns - uploaded the game highlights on its Instagram handle on Saturday, and fans flooded the comment section with their admiration for the young guns of girls basketball.

One fan declared:

“The Future of the WNBA.”

And one fan, perfectly summing up the night, wrote:

“Every game I've seen of Chavez's, she was always the best girl on the court. Yesterday that wasn't the case. Smith was right there with her. They are both GREAT PLAYERS! Not only did they put on a show! They packed the ARENA! Of all the games this weekend, this was the game everyone wanted to see! Shout out to ladies!!!!”

Some fans couldn’t stop raving about Ontario Christian’s dominance:

“Ontario Christian is the best HS girls hoops team I have ever seen.”

The clash in a packed arena lived up to the hype as both Chevz (No. 1 in the 2025 class) and Kaleena Smith (No. 1 in the 2027 class) dropped 29 points each. However, the matchup was a heartbreaker for the Monterey (Lubbock, Texas) varsity basketball team. They suffered a rare loss in an otherwise stellar season; Chavez’s team now sits at 15-2.

Aaliyah Chavez is on fire this season, putting on jaw-dropping performances one after another. Playing against the Conway Wampus Cats on Friday, the 5-foot-9 point guard again asserted her dominance. Chavez scored 34 points, leading her team to a close 66-62 victory.

Before that, Chavez dropped a 46-point stunner against Plainview on Tuesday, justifying her No. 1 status and taking her tally to 609 points in 17 games. Aaliyah Chavez and Kaleena Smith were named in the 2024-2025 MaxPreps Preseason All-America Girls Basketball Team.

While Chavez is a hot favorite for top colleges nationwide, Kaleena Smith is steadily expanding the list of suitors. (20 scholarship offers as she begins her sophomore season)
