AJ Dybantsa has been the talk of the town ever since he made his commitment to the BYU Cougars official on Tuesday. The No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2025 appeared in plenty of videos and podcasts to talk about his recruitment and plans.
On Wednesday's edition of Stephen A. Smith's show, Dybantsa was asked about his process and what's next.
"I mean, it's just a blessing, but it's only one step closer," Dybantsa said. "I told my dad it's a three-step process. This is only step one. The draft will be step two and the Hall of Fame speech is step three." (42:21)
Dybantsa added that he would like to feature in the 2028 Olympics for Team USA. He also spoke about Duke's Cooper Flagg.
"We have known each other since the seventh grade. He is from New England. He is from Maine, so I support this game," Dybantsa said. "I have always respected this game. We've been playing against each other. He is going to be great." (43:49)
A look at AJ Dybantsa's stats
For Team USA, Dybantsa won the gold medal in the FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship in Mexico and averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. After winning the U16 Americas Cup, Dybantsa was also selected for the FIBA U17 World Cup. He talked about the opportunity in June.
“It was a sigh of relief,” Dybantsa said, recalling the moment he was officially named to the team. “You’re competing for a spot. Just because you made it last year doesn’t mean you’re going to automatically make it this year. So, it was just a sigh of relief, and I’m ready to work.”
He won his second gold medal in Turkey, representing U17 USA Men's Basketball, averaging 14.1 ppg, 4.1 apg and 3.9 rpg.
This season, Dybantsa has played two games for Utah Prep and is averaging a double-double with 14.0 ppg, 14.0 rpg, 5.0 apg and 3.0 steals per game.
