Basketball fans were not convinced about the prospect of AJ Dybantsa and Victor Wembanyama playing together after the former said he would love to play with the 7-foot-3 center. Dybantsa, who is the No.1 prospect in the high school basketball class of 2025, is projected to be the number one overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft.

Although it is still over 12 months away, the 6-foot-9 Utah Prep star said in an interview with ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on Saturday that he and Wembanyama would've made a "crazy duo" at Spurs.

"I think Victor is just ridiculous; the things he does are just crazy. I just think we would've been a crazy duo. Now the odds of that happening are very slim. But I mean, it was just a thought that came up in my mind when he got drafted. But you never know,” Dybantsa said.

Fans reacted to Dybantsa’s statement on Instagram. A few claimed it was very unlikely that Dybantsa would go to Spurs.

“The Spurs will be too good to draft him lol,” a fan said.
“Welcome to the wizards gang," another fan wrote.
“You’ll be in Washington DC my friend," another fan echoed.

Meanwhile, one fan urged Dybantsa to take it one step at a time while others echoed that he might be signed by different teams.

“This young man hasn’t played one collegiate game yet. He’s wayyyyy ahead of himself. He still has to finish high school first,” a fan said.
“Welcome to Orlando bro say thank you to the suns 🙏🏾,” another fan wrote.
“He’s gonna help Washington win 15 games next szn 🙌,” a fan commented.

BYU first for Dybantsa but Wembanyama linkup is unlikely

Dybantsa will still have to wait a little for his NBA dream as the 6-foot-9 Utah Prep forward has to play college basketball first. The No. 1 overall prospect in the class is entering his final few months at Utah before moving to Provo, having committed to BYU for college ball.

Dybantsa ended months of speculation last year after choosing the Cougars ahead of Kansas State and Alabama. Dybantsa is expected to play at least one year of college basketball before declaring for the NBA draft.

However, it is very unlikely that he will link up with Wembanyama in his first year because the odds of the Spurs getting the No.1 pick in the 2026 NBA draft are low.
