AJ Dybantsa insists he doesn't have an ego yet because he has not achieved anything in his career despite being the No. 1-ranked high school prospect in the 2025 class.
In an interview on the Says Who Sports YouTube channel on Sept. 4, the Utah Prep small forward said he cannot let the little success he has right now get into his head.
“My goal … is to be a Hall of Famer. So, until I‘ve done that, there’s no point of just boasting. … Once you are a Hall of Famer, you know you made it,” Dybantsa said (Timestamp: 9:25).
Despite saying he has no ego, Dybantsa acknowledges that he has confidence in himself, though he still respects the game.
"You have to respect the game. … I believe in karma,” Dybantsa said (Timestamp: 9:50). “Karma is definitely a thing. Respect your opponents because, I mean, everybody playing on the stage for a reason. … So, you have definitely got to respect each other, respect the game. But, I mean, confidence, you gotta have confidence, 'cause I think confidence is a real game changer."
Dybantsa keeps improving as he shows in the Grind Session
AJ Dybantsa’s confidence was on full display when he came up against the No. 3 recruit Darryn Peterson at the Grind Session on Sunday.
Although his school Utah Prep lost 76-70, the No. 1 five-star consensus recruit recorded 28 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals in a matchup where both stars showed up.
Dybantsa has been brilliant for Utah Prep this season, which is his senior year. The 6-foot-9 small forward is averaging 14.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
