In a fun throwback video on the Ballislife YouTube channel, Kiyan Anthony, son of NBA veteran Carmelo Anthony, revealed his love for sneakers, which goes beyond fashion statements, and influences his mindset about his approach on the court.
Giving a tour to his household, Kiyan showcased his collection of high-end sneakers and cheekily revealed Kobe’s line of Nike sneakers as his favorites.
“Kobe’s my favorite; yeah, Kobe is my favorite,” he said in the video published in December 2021.
But his likeness for Kobe surpasses just looks or build. Holding a Grinch sneaker, the young guard highlighted how they help him perform well on the court:
“These, I'll be having 20 plus every time, the grinch in here. I feel like they give me superpowers. You know the Grinch; he doesn't like Christmas, he means so I'll be playing like…” (5:35)
The host picked up this energy and completed Kiyan’s sentence with a lighthearted joke:
“Like you got a chip on your shoulder every time with the green ones on.”
To that, Kiyan happily replied with a big "yeah.”
The Kobe Bryant and Nike partnership in 2023 paved the way for Kobe’s line of sneakers that assimilates the influence of the NBA legend on basketball and his ‘Mamba Mentality.’ Infusing groundbreaking technologies like Flyknit, Lunarlon, and Zoom Air, Kobe’s line became the benchmark for high performance.
Even basketball superstars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Paul George have praised the line, showing just how much it resonates with the game's biggest names.
Meanwhile, Kiyan Anthony is making headlines for all the good reasons. Whether it's being the No. 1 guard in the New York Class, hitting $1.1 million in value, or signing a major NIL deal with WME Sports.
Auburn out of race to secure the commitment of Kiyan Anthony?
Which college will Kiyan Anthony pick to carry forward his basketball career is perhaps the most popular discussion among hoops fans these days. The 17-year-old has already announced that the big reveal will happen on Melo’s podcast ‘7 PM in Brooklyn’ on November 15. After receiving offers from over 21 Division I colleges, the No. 32 top recruit in the 2025 class finalized three options: USC, Florida, and Syracuse.
However, a recent revelation from Carmelo Anthony, Kiyan Anthony is only down to two choices now. The 10x NBA All-Star made an appearance on ‘Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.’ When Fallon poked the NBA veteran about his son’s upcoming college commitment, he said:
“I’m a little nervous, but yes. He is deciding which college he wants to go to. It’s down to two. It’s down to Syracuse and USC.”
The On3 prediction machine that calculated the probability of Kiyan joining Syracuse from 60% to 80% has now amped the score to 93.7%. If this prediction comes true, Kiyan Anthony will kickstart his NCAA career from the same college that transformed his father into an NBA legend.
