Kiyan Anthony was one of the best performers during last summer's Nike EYBL Peach Jam in Augusta, South Carolina, averaging 21.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for Team Melo.
However, they struggled against Team Final, which defeated them by just one point earlier in the season.
During this latest meeting in July, Team Final was led by 3-star combo guard Jake West, who has committed to Northwestern University. West sank the game-winning shot with a hand on his face, as Team Final won the game by just one point again, 69-68.
Team Melo struggled with a slow start, with Team Final capitalizing on mistakes. Kiyan Anthony said that his team was not doing everything on the floor.
"First quarter, they was killing us," said Anthony. "I know why. They had a perfect scheme against us. I couldn't even get to the basket." (13:51 - 14:15)
Team Melo did switch things up and made some adjustments, eventually catching up to Team Final by halftime, from down 14 points to just trailing by four. However, this was not enough to get them the win, with Team Final always coming back with an answer every time Team Melo went on a run.
Team Melo "raised" him, says Kiyan Anthony during blog
During that same blog on Overtime, which is part of Kiyan's "Evolu7ion" series, the Long Island Lutheran 4-star shooting guard reflected on his final AAU tournament as he is now about to embark on his senior year of high school.
"Team Melo really raised me," said Kiyan Anthony. "At 16, nobody knew who I was. At 15, nobody definitely knew who I was. Team Melo certainly assisted me. Without them, I don’t think I’d be where I am today." (3:53-4:04)
During his trip to Augusta, Kiyan got to spend more time with his teammates on Team Melo, especially as his dad and team owner, NBA great Carmelo Anthony, rented out an entire house for him and his teammates to stay in. The elder Anthony also stayed in the same house and was even seen cooking during a previous blog.
