Columbia High School's football team, the Columbia Eagles, extended their winless run to a whopping 87 games after their latest loss to the Decatur Red Raiders on Saturday. The last time the Eagles won a football game, Barack Obama was still at the helm of the United States of America.
Columbia's last win came in October 2015, almost 10 years ago. This has been an unprecedented run of winless games, which, according to Kevin Askeland of MaxPreps, is the longest streak in high school football history.
Saturday was the Eagles' best chance to break this winless streak as the Red Raiders came into the game with a 1-5 record this season. However, the Alabama-based high school registered their 87th consecutive loss.
MaxPreps shared the news on its Instagram account and fans were quick to react to the historic loss. Some fans were in utter shock, whereas others blamed the coaching staff for the team's poor performance.
"how can this even be possible," one fan commented.
"either the team is straight buns or the whole district is elite," another fan wrote.
"Can you bet on high school sports? Asking for a friend," another fan said.
One fan hilariously suggested bringing in former Alabama head coach Nick Saban to break this skid.
"They need nick saban," said the fan.
"We goin for it on 4th every time," another fan commented.
"i looked up on maxpreps and every game is a blowout," another fan said.
Columbia High School has slipped to 0-6 for the season and will take on the Cullman Bearcats in their next game on Friday, October 11.
Columbia High School has lost every game by more than 30 points this season
Columbia High School lost their game against the Decatur Red Raiders 54-16, a margin of 38 points.
This was the Eagles' sixth straight defeat. The most disappointing fact about the Eagles' season is that they have lost each of their games in blowout fashion. They have scored double-digit points in just three of their six games while giving up more than 30 points in each of their games this season.
Their biggest defeat came against the Hartselle Tigers on September 13 this year. The Eagles were blown away 65-0. It was the third time this season that the Eagles gave up more than 60 points to their opponents.
It has been a poor showing from Columbia High School as they continue to struggle. They will hope to break this winless streak as soon as possible.
