LSU stunned Ole Miss on Saturday with a 29-26 overtime win. The game-winning score marked the first time Brian Kelly's program led in the entire game. Fans rushed the field after the match, including four-star linebacker CJ Jimcoily, who is a member of its 2025 class.
In a postgame interview with The Bengal Tiger, Jimcoily didn’t hold back in expressing his pride for the Tigers.
"Did people forget? A glimmer of hope in Death Valley is like a drop of water in the Sahara. … Don't forget, in the end, this is where your dreams come to die."
The victory was especially sweet for the Tigers, who faced a challenging Ole Miss team that defeated them in a high-scoring game last season in Oxford (55-49). They showcased their caliber with a strong defensive performance against one of the nation’s top offenses.
However, Jimcoily's bold statement (The expression was first used by former LSU coach Ed Orgeron in 2019) shouldn’t be surprising as he already had high praise for the Tigers following his commitment.
“The people at LSU were a big reason why I committed to LSU. They care for me and want the best for me," Jimcoily said via On3 in August.
After taking his official visit to LSU in June and committing in August, CJ Jimcoily became the 20th commitment in the 2025 class. Since then, that number has ballooned to 27. LSU's class ranks No. 3 in the nation and No. 2 in the Southeastern Conference.
CJ Jimcoily aims to boost his own brand with LSU
CJ Jimcoily has proven his caliber on the football field both as a cornerback and safety during his junior year with Lipscomb Academy (Tennessee). He is poised to excel in his role at LSU, a hybrid position that combines the responsibilities of a safety and linebacker. His strong anticipation and smooth transitions out of his backpedal show his readiness for it.
Beyond his athleticism, Jimcoily is also a standout student and has maintained a GPA above 4.0. LSU's vision aligns with his career both on and off the field.
“When it came down to it, LSU can offer some things academically, as well as connections with their brand, because the LSU brand is insane," Jimcoily said, according to The Tennessean in August. "I’ll be able to use that to boost my own brand and use it to my advantage.”
CJ Jimcoily is ranked as the No. 219 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 23 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 7 prospect in Tennessee by Rivals.
