Four-star athlete Jordan Young is considered a safety prospect, but he is projected to be a top recruit both as a receiver and defensive back at the next level. Besides football, he is also a state finalist in the long jump and triple jump events.

Young was originally slated to announce his college decision on his birthday in October but has postponed his announcement to Nov. 2. He earned the highest rating from Rivals which has him as the No. 39 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 3 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 2 recruit in North Carolina.

Let's see which three programs have the most potential to earn Young's commitment.

Top 3 programs vying for Jordan Young's commitment

3. Michigan

While Michigan may not be the frontrunner, they remain in contention for Young's commitment. The Wolverines have hosted him for two visits but hold less than a 1% chance of landing him.

Michigan's 2025 class is ranked No. 14 nationally with 16 committed players, featuring two strong defensive back commits: Kainoa Winston and Ivan Taylor. They are keen on adding another top-tier defensive back to bolster their class and Young should fit the bill. However, Sherrone Moore and his staff will have to make a strong push to make it happen.

2. Clemson

Clemson is another program that is heavily pursuing Young as the Tigers have hosted him on four separate visits. His most recent trip was on Sept. 21 when he attended their 59-35 victory over NC State.

“The people at Clemson are great," Young said via On3 in July. "Coach Dabo Swinney has a top program at Clemson and their coaches are good people and easy to talk to.”

The Tigers have received three predictions this year favoring their chances to land Young's commitment, per 247Sports analysts. However, their chances of landing him have diminished lately.

In July, Clemson was considered one of the frontrunners and was given a 24.7% chance of landing him, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine. It has since significantly dropped to 1.9%.

The Tigers have 13 players committed to their 2025 class including four-star safety Tae Harris. Their recruiting class is ranked No. 15 in the nation.

1. NC State

NC State has now emerged as the clear frontrunner for Jordan Young’s commitment. According to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Wolfpack have a 93.2% chance of securing his pledge. He has made three visits to the school, with the most recent trip on Sept. 9.

“I left this visit feeling great about NC State," Young told On3 on Sept. 15. "The visit definitely helped the program with my decision coming up. The environment, the fans and the fight in the team when faced with adversity stood out to me.”

NC State's 2025 class ranks No. 51 in the nation with 16 commitments. The cycle is headlined by wide receiver Jerel Bolder, interior offensive lineman Isaac Sowells Jr., running back Kentrell Rinehart, tight end Gus Ritchey and cornerback Cam Strong.
