Running backs play a crucial role in an offense, as their ability to dominate the ground game, create explosive plays and grind out tough yards in critical moments can make or break a program's season. When schools secure commitments from top-tier players in this position, they lay a foundation for future success.

The 2025 recruiting class boasts multiple standout RBs, whose commitments and signings have electrified their respective programs. Let's look at the top three running back signees in this cycle.

Top 3 running back signees in the 2025 class

3. Alvin Henderson

Four-star recruit Alvin Henderson earned the 2024 MaxPreps Alabama High School Football Player of the Year and the Gatorade Alabama Football Player of the Year this season. The standout from Elba High School in Alabama flipped from Penn State to Auburn on June 21, and signed with the Tigers on National Signing Day, Dec. 3.

Henderson ran for 3,620 yards and 61 touchdowns on 276 carries in his senior season. He exceeded 300 rushing yards in six games this fall and finished his high school career with 10,930 yards.

He is ranked as the No. 6 running back in the nation, the No. 114 prospect in the country and the No. 10 recruit in Alabama, according to ESPN. He also holds the top spot at his position in Rivals' rankings.

2. Akylin Dear

Akylin Dear is known for his ability to find gaps in tight spaces and his proficiency as a pass-catcher. The standout from Quitman High School in Mississippi is ranked as the No. 2 running back in the 2025 class by 247Sports. Dear committed to Alabama ahead of his senior year and signed with the Crimson Tide on National Signing Day.

Dear secured multiple titles this year, including a 2024 All-American and an Under Armor All-American. His ability to contribute both in the running and passing game will be a great asset for Kalen DeBoer's program. Dear plans to enroll early and be on the Alabama campus by Jan. 6.

1. Harlem Berry

Five-star recruit Harlem Berry is ranked as the No. 1 running back in the 2025 class, according to all major recruiting channels. He committed to LSU in January and signed with the Tigers on Dec. 3.

The 5-foot-10, 182-pound athlete was named the Gatorade Louisiana Football Player of the Year last week for his phenomenal senior season at St. Martin's Episcopal School in Louisiana. He ran for 2,178 yards and recorded 41 touchdowns this season.

Berry heads to Brian Kelly's program as the highest-rated running back in Louisiana since Leonard Fournette. He is also the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana and the No. 36 recruit in the nation. His skill set has drawn comparisons to NFL legend Reggie Bush, due to his ability to turn any play into a highlight reel.
