Top 3 takeaways from Oregon High School Week 7

#3. Mountainside claims historic win over Jesuit

Mountainside made history Friday night by securing its first-ever victory over Metro League powerhouse Jesuit in a dominant 58-35 performance at Cronin Field.

Previously, the Mavericks had taken down high-ranked teams like No. 1 seed Tigard in the 2019 playoffs, but never Jesuit. This time, they overwhelmed the Crusaders on the ground, rushing for seven of their eight touchdowns.

Junior quarterback Cade Mitchell emphasized the significance, saying,

“This means a lot for our program. We all had that mindset to go make history tonight and shock the rest of the state.”

Mountainside jumped to a commanding 20-0 lead in the first quarter, with key plays including a strip sack and recovery by Sam Vhylidal, and a successful onside kick recovery.

By halftime, Mountainside was 34-7, though Jesuit closed the gap to 51-35 in the third quarter. A fourth-down defensive stop near their goal line helped the Mavericks maintain control, and Jordan Hicks' 30-yard touchdown run sealed the victory.

#2. Silverton outlasts Wilsonville in high-stakes 5A battle

Ranked No. 2 in 5A, Silverton emerged victorious in a high-powered clash with top-ranked Wilsonville, handing the defending state champions a 45-27 defeat. The win keeps Silverton in prime position for a deep playoff run, as it overturned a 20-14 halftime deficit with a dominant second half.

One of the game’s key moments came when quarterback Sawyer Teeney connected with Sutton Kuenzi for a 68-yard touchdown pass that tied the score at 20-20 in the third quarter.

Coach Dan Lever credited the team's second-half resurgence to adjustments made by the coaching staff.

“We had a bunch of plays in the first half that were close to going big, but they didn’t. In the second half, they did," he said.

Teeney finished with five touchdown passes adding to his rushing score, while Wilsonville quarterback Mark Wiepert threw for 365 yards and four touchdowns.

#1. Lakeridge rallies past Tualatin to stay in the title hunt

Lakeridge, ranked No. 4 in 6A, bounced back from a tough loss to West Linn last week with a 33-22 win over No. 5 Tualatin, keeping its Three Rivers League title hopes alive.

The victory was impressive given the first-quarter injury to standout junior and University of Washington commit Ansu Sanoe. Lakeridge’s defense stepped up in his absence, with Jake Zowadski recording five sacks and leading a defensive effort that shut down Tualatin’s offense in key moments.

Tishendorf iced the game with a 31-yard touchdown run, capping a gritty, team-wide effort. Coach Spencer Phillips lauded his team’s resilience.

“Just a total team win,” Phillips told SI. “It was great to see our kids respond in the second half. We had too many missed opportunities in the first half, and the ball was bouncing their way. It was great to see our team not give up.”

The Timberwolves briefly held a 22-19 lead late in the third quarter after a 47-yard interception return for a touchdown by Cole Hachmeister. However, Lakeridge responded with a 3-yard touchdown run by tight end Noah Tishendorf out of the Wildcat formation, putting the Pacers back in control at 26-22.
