Kayden Mingo, the 180-pound combo guard from Long Island Lutheran High School (N.Y.) had 12 offers, as per 247Sports. But the No. 2 in 2025 top basketball recruits in New York has now fixed his gaze on four colleges to get a clear overview of which college would be the best.
Right now, he's considering offers from Georgia, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. He has to make the final decision, though, but Mingo is taking it slow.
“At this point, it's going to come down to the fit," he told 247Sports. "The other things I pay attention to are my relationship with the head coach along with the whole staff, opportunity and style of play.”
Going by his statement, Mingo wants to make sure he picks the best offer for his career.
Revealing how he is going to finalize the offer, he said, “These are all things I'll be talking with my family about along with watching games on each of them and seeing what's the best situation for me.”
Which offer will Kayden Mingo accept?
Kayden Mingo has visited all four schools he's considering and did home visits with each program. Talking with 247Sports, he has nothing but praise for each school he visited. He hasn't revealed his final decision, which will come on Nov. 1.
If he prioritizes staying closer to home, Penn State seems the best option. Ace Baldwin, the star guard for the Nittany Lions, will be leaving after this season. So, it wouldl be the perfect opportunity for the 6-foot-2 point guard to unleash his talent and cement his position in the team as PG.
Likewise, Virginia Tech also seems like a lucrative option for the young PG. Ace starters Hunter Cattoor and Sean Pedulla aren't a part of the Hokies any more. Similarly, Temple transfer Hysier Miller will don the Hokies jersey for only a year. That would create an excellent opportunity for Kayden Mingo to step in for a greater role in the team and get ample playing time to showcase his abilities.
The Georgia Bulldogs, meanwhile, have Jordyn Kee and Savo Drezgic coming as freshman guards, not to mention Silas Demary Jr. and Blue Cain strengthening the roster.
All these talented players might create a logjam situation for Kayden Mingo, where he won't get playing time at the guard position. A similar situation could happen at Wake Forest too. Sophomore transfers Davin Cosby and Ty-Laur Johnson could push Kayden Mingo to a logjam situation.
It appears that Penn State and Virginia Tech are the most promising options for the young CG. It will be interesting to see which program Kayden Mingo, the No. 43 overall prospect in the class of 2025, ultimately picks.
