A Very Melo Classic, hosted by the 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, is an event that features some of the top high school basketball prospects and teams in the country. The 2025 edition of the tournament marks its third edition as Team Melo Basketball continues to provide support to those in need.
The tournament will be held in Baltimore, Maryland, and tips off on Feb. 1 at the Harford Community College. The ten teams that will feature in the tournament include Sidwell, Mt. Zion HS, B. McNamara, Mount St. Joseph, Oak Hill Academy, Gonzaga, OTE, St. Francis Academy, Paul VI, and Luhi. Let's look at the players to watch out for in the A Very Melo Classic.
5 players to watch out for in A Very Melo Classic
#5 Kayden Mingo
Kiyan Anthony's teammate at Luhi, Kayden Mingo, is one of the top prospects in the 2025 class. He committed to Penn State on Nov. 1 and ranks at the 43rd position nationally, fourth in the combo guard position, and second in New York. He had offers from several colleges, including Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, and Georgia, among others.
With the absence of Kiyan, four-star prospect Kayden and his brother, Dylan, combined to score 36 points against Westminister Academy last month.
#4 Amari Evans
Overtime Elite's shooting guard Amari Evans is ranked 83rd nationally, 22nd in his position, and 11th in Georgia in the class of 2025. The Tennessee signee had offers from plenty of programs, including Pittsburgh, Oklahoma State, and Providence.
The 6-foot-5 guard has played 11 games so far this season, averaging 4.4 ppg, 2.2 apg, 5.9 rpg, 1.5 spg, and 0.5 bpg for Northgate Vikings.
#3 Acaden Lewis
The No. 1 ranked player in the District of Columbia, Acaden Lewis, is another to keep an eye on at the A Very Melo Classic. The four-star recruit signed for the University of Kentucky on Nov. 2 after rejecting offers from Connecticut, Michigan, and Florida State, among others.
For Sidwell Friends, the point guard is averaging 11.7 ppg, 2.3 apg, 3.0 rpg, 0.9 spg, and 0.1 bpg in 67 matches.
#2 Kiyan Anthony
Following in his father's footsteps, Kiyan signed for Syracuse on Nov. 15. The shooting guard is ranked at the 35th position nationally, 11th in his position, and first in New York. He also had offers from Florida State, USC, and Providence.
The four-star recruit will represent Long Island Lutheran High School in the A Very Melo Classic. In the Nike EYBL, he posted averages of 19.6 points and 4.6 rebounds.
#1 Meleek Thomas
OTE's shooting guard Meleek Thomas had offers from Pittsburgh, Connecticut, and more before he signed for Arkansas on Nov. 11. Thomas is ranked as the eighth-best player in the 2025 class and second-best in his position and Georgia. He also plays for the Lincoln Park Performing Arts School.
This season, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has played four games and is posting averages of 19.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 4.5 assists per contest.
